Design-First Focused

Hagan Binder is a professional landscape architecture firm, and our core focus is on thoughtful, site-specific design. While we offer retail sales of select products such as lighting, furniture, and plant materials, even these transactions may require design expertise to ensure the selections are appropriate and integrated into the overall landscape. As such, design services are always billed separately and charged by the hour, regardless of whether products are ultimately purchased through us. This approach allows us to maintain the high standards and cohesive outcomes that define our work.

Retail and Installation Policies

At Hagan Binder Landscape Architects, our design-first approach is central to all landscape projects. We believe that thoughtful plant selection, placement, and sourcing are critical to the long-term success of a landscape. While some nurseries or installation companies may offer complimentary planting plans to support product sales, we are a professional design firm—and we always charge for our design and coordination time, regardless of the level of involvement. This ensures that every landscape plan is intentional, site-specific, and aligned with the timeless quality that our firm is known for.


We offer three levels of service related to plant sourcing and installation:


Option 1: Design-Only (Client-Sourced & Installed)

We design your landscape and provide a comprehensive list of plants and materials as part of the design process. We also may provide an opinion of probable cost as described in our agreements. You may choose to source the plants and arrange for installation independently. If our involvement is needed at any point—such as advising on substitutions, site visits, or layout support—our time is billed hourly.


Option 2: Design + Sourcing

We design your landscape and create a detailed plant list and material schedule. We identify appropriate nurseries or growers, provide pricing (estimates and quotes), suggest alternatives as needed, and coordinate delivery to the site. All sourcing and coordination work is billed hourly. Client may pay for materials directly or HBLA can pay for them and bill the Client.


Option 3: Full-Service Installation

We handle everything from design through installation. This includes plant selection, sourcing, pricing, identifying substitutions if necessary, and full coordination of both delivery and installation. Installation is performed by our team or trusted partners under our direction to ensure that design intent is fully implemented. Installation is typically based on the signed and sealed design plans created by HBLA.


Please note: If significant grading or earthwork is required to complete the planting installation, additional fees may apply. These will be discussed and agreed upon in advance.

At Hagan Binder Landscape Architects, lighting is a critical element in our work, enhancing the character and experience of our landscapes. While some retailers or big-box stores may offer complimentary lighting design services to support product sales, we are a professional design firm first. As such, we charge for our design time on all lighting projects, this ensures that each lighting plan is thoughtfully integrated into the overall design and meets the high standards that our clients expect.


We offer three distinct lighting service options:


Option 1: Direct Retail Sales

For clients who already know exactly which lighting components they wish to purchase, we offer direct retail sales. Clients provide a specific list of desired items, and we fulfill the order at standard retail pricing. No design services are included or required.


Option 2: Lighting Design

For projects requiring a complete lighting strategy, we offer full-service lighting design, which may include:


-Fixture selection and layout

-Schematic plans

-Conduit routing and sizing

-Transformer sizing and specification

-Lens and color temperature selection

-Integration with broader landscape plans


Design work is billed hourly, and components are priced at retail.


Option 3: Lighting Installation

Lighting installation is available only for systems that we have designed, and is provided under a separate installation agreement. This allows us to ensure proper execution of the design and quality control throughout the process.


We offer a per-fixture, all-inclusive installation price which includes:


-Fixtures

-Wiring

-Conduit

-Connectors, etc.

-Labor


Additional charges may apply if significant grading or earthwork is required. These will be discussed and agreed upon in advance.

As a design-driven firm, we view outdoor furniture as an extension of the landscape—supporting how a space is used and experienced. While some retailers may offer complimentary design assistance to support product sales, we are a professional design firm first. We always charge for our design and coordination time, ensuring that selections are thoughtful, cohesive, and tailored to your site and style.


We offer three levels of service for outdoor furniture and planters:


Option 1: Direct Retail Sales

For clients who already know exactly what they want, we offer direct retail sales of select furniture lines. Clients provide a list of desired pieces, and we fulfill the order at standard retail pricing. No design or layout services are included with this option.


Option 2: Furniture Design

We offer professional furniture design services, including:


-Space planning and layout diagrams

-Furniture selection

-Finish and fabric coordination

-Integration with the broader site design


Design time is billed hourly, and furniture is billed at retail pricing.


Option 3: Design, Order, Delivery & Assembly

We manage the process from design through delivery and setup, including:


-Layout and selection (Option 2)

-Ordering and logistics.

-Delivery coordination and on-site setup.


Our team ensures that each piece is placed as designed and ready for immediate use. Design and coordination time is billed hourly. Furniture is billed at retail pricing, and delivery/setup is billed hourly.
